#12 BOBCATS SPLIT MID-WEEK ACTION WITH WARRIORS

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 30, 2021) - No. 12 St. Thomas University Baseball (22-13) split the doubleheader with Webber International University (22-15) falling in game one, 1-2, then winning game two, 11-5, Tuesday evening from Heart of Florida Field.

Game One 

Starters:

Kobe Lopez - Shortstop

Emanuel Montesino - Left Field

Josue Rangel - Second Base

Alejandro Rivero - Third Base

Jack Khawly - First Base

Daniel Mondejar - Catcher

Chris Schoeller - Designated Player

Andrew Fernandez - Right Field

Gus Guerra - Center Field

Robert Touron - Pitcher

Notes:

  • The first inning went quickly for both the Bobcats and the Warriors, both teams leaving a runner on base.
  • At the top of the second, Khawly was on third but was unable to make it home, keeping the Bobcats scoreless.
  • Both teams again left runners stranded on the bases in the third inning.
  • The fourth inning was a three and out for the Bobcats.
  • The Warriors changed the game's pace in the bottom of the fourth when a wild pitch and a triple scored two runs, putting them over the Bobcats 2-0.
  • A walk to Guerra in the top of the fifth put on a runner on when Lopez returned to the plate. Guerra then stole second, putting himself in scoring position with two outs.
  • Lopez singled through the left side, allowing Guerra to score from second, putting the Bobcats down 2-1, closing out the top of the fifth inning.
  • A pitching change to Grana started the bottom of the fifth. Grana was able to close out the inning with a pop-up, leaving the Warriors with three runners left on base.
  • The sixth inning was quick up and down as neither team recorded another run.
  • Khawly started off the top of the seventh with a single up the left side. Unfortunately, Bobcats were unable to make anything happen, stranding him and closing out the game.

Notes:

  • Lopez started the game with a single to center field. A Rangel hit to the left side allowed Lopez to score. Rivero then singled, scoring Rangel, quickly adding two for the Bobcats in the first.
  • The Bobcats and Warriors were unable to add a run to their score, keeping the game 2-0.
  • In the third inning, Rivero hit a three-run home run, scoring Montesino and Rangel. With a single from Fernandez, Borroto was able to score, as well as Khawly. Lopez then hit a double to left-center, scoring Fernandez from first.
  • Lopez was then able to score on a passed ball, creating a 9-0 lead for the Bobcats ending the inning offensively.
  • Warriors were able to respond by adding two runs of their own in the bottom of the third, shortening the Bobcat lead to seven.
  • Bobcats added two walks in the fourth but were unable to convert them to runs.
  • Joel Rivero came in to pitch the bottom of the fourth and was able to strike out his first two batters. The Warriors stranded one.
  • Warriors seized the opportunity to add another few runs to their total in the bottom of the fifth. 
  • Dearman became the new pitcher for the Bobcats after the Warriors added one. He was able to get out of the inning, but two more runs scored for the Warriors, bringing them within four, 9-5.
  • In a one-out situation in the top of the sixth, Khawly hit a single home run, putting the Bobcats up by five.
  • Fernandez hit a triple to center, allowing Franco to score. Bobcats closed out the inning by advancing 11-5 over the Warriors.
  • Bobcats were able to hold onto the win as Dearman pitched through the seventh.

Alejandro Rivero: 1 home run, 4 RBIs, 1 stolen base, 2 hits, 1 run

Andrew Fernandez: 1 run, 3 RBIs, 1 triple

Christian Dearman: 3 IP, 0 runs, 4 strikeouts
