KHAWLY LEADS #4 BOBCATS TO SWEEP OVER BSC

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 5, 2021) - No. 4 St. Thomas University (STU) Bobcats Baseball (12-7) swept Bryant & Stratton College in a doubleheader and completed a three-game series on Friday evening from Paul Demie Mainieri Field. St, Thomas claimed victory in game one, winning 13-1 and winning game two 8-1.

  • Following back-to-back walks to Lopez and Rivero, Khawly approached the plate with two outs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Khawly scored the first two runs of the game for St. Thomas with a two-run double, which scored Lopez and Rivero.
  • Montesino followed with an RBI single to left field, plating Khawly and extending the lead to 3-0.
  • Mondejar capped off the inning with the third consecutive hit for STU, driving in Montesino with a double down the left-field line, putting the score at 4-0 after one inning.
  • After a lead-off single by BSC, Rangel dove on a groundball up the middle, flipping to Lopez and turning a double play to stall the inning for Bryant & Stratton.
  • Guerra led off the bottom of the second inning with a single, promptly stole second, and reached third on a wild pitch. 
  • Lopez padded the STU advantage with a two-run double, scoring Guerra and Rangel to put the score at 6-0.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Mondejar hit his fourth home run of the season, giving St. Thomas a 7-0 lead.
  • Later in the inning, Lowry scored on a sacrifice fly from Rangel.
  •  With the bases loaded and two outs, Fernandez laced a single down the third-base line and drove in two more runs, bringing the STU lead to 10-0.
  • Khawly followed with his second double of the afternoon, scoring Rivero and Fernandez, giving St. Thomas a 12-0 advantage.
  •  After allowing a lead-off single in the third inning, Pino settled in, retiring nine BSC hitters in a row.
  • Guerra ended the Bryant & Stratton scoring threat with a strong throw from the outfield to the catcher Mondejar, to record the third out of the fifth inning for STU.
  • Pino was relieved to start the seventh inning by Marcus McKoy. 
  • After allowing a run, McKoy recorded the final three-outs and sealed the series win for No. 4 St. Thomas.

  • Guerra opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, hitting a two-run single, bringing in R. Fernandez and Montesino.
  • The bases loaded again as Khawly approached the plate. Khawly hit his third home run of the season, and his first grand slam, to extend the STU lead to 6-0.
  • Montesino capped off a seven-run inning for STU with an infield single which plated Estevez.
  • Soto finished the third inning with a strikeout, having tallied five strikeouts in the first three frames.
  • Guerra recorded his second hit and RBI in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Thompson and bringing the score to 8-0.
  • Andy Quintana relieved Soto in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Jason Grana entered the game in the seventh inning for St. Thomas.
  • BSC plated their first run of the contest with three consecutive hits to open the inning.
  • Grana closed the win with a strikeout, as the Bobcats closed the series with a sweep.
