#12 STU HONORS 2021 SENIOR CLASS WITH WIN IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (May 4, 2021) - No. 12 St. Thomas University (STU) Baseball (33-17) completed its regular season with a 12-6 victory over Florida National University on Tuesday evening from Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

Before the game, St. Thomas University honored the 2021 Senior Class of Christian Dearman, Kobe Lopez, Daniel Lowry, Gus Guerra, Jason Grana, Alejandro Rivero, Daniel Mondejar, and Ernesto Pino in a pregame ceremony.

Game Notes

  • FNU opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • Touron settled in and struck out two Conquistadors in his second inning of work.
  • David Armstrong entered in relief of Touron in the third inning. 
  • Florida National added four runs, off five hits in the inning, to take a 5-0 lead over the Bobcats.
  • Lowry led off the bottom of the third inning with a single and advanced to third on a single from Lopez.
  • Lowry scored the first run of the game for STU, coming in on a wild pitch.
  • The Bobcats added two more runs in the inning, with both coming into score on an error by Florida National.
  • Joel Rivero set the Conquistadors down in order in the top of the fourth inning, striking out one. 
  • Khawly scored on a double play, putting the score at 5-4. 
  • Lopez started the bottom of the fifth inning, leading off with a single and stealing second base.
  • Rangel doubled to left field, driving in Lopez to tie the game 5-5.
  • Mondejar gave the Bobcats the lead later in the inning, with a double down the right-field line.
  • Montesino followed with the third STU double of the inning, scoring Joel Franco, as St. Thomas took a 7-5 lead.
  • Khawly capped off the inning with a two-run home run, as STU led 9-5.
  • Richard Sanchez escaped a jam in the top of the sixth inning by inducing a double play.
  • Rivero recorded his 11th home run of the season, extending the lead to 11-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • Andy Quintana entered into pitch in the top of the seventh inning and allowed one run on a wild pitch.
  • Christopher Schoeller brought in Lowry on a sacrifice fly, extending the Bobcat lead to 12-5.
  • Christian Dearman sealed the win with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the ninth, ending the regular season for the Bobcats.

No. 12 St. Thomas University has clinched a spot in the Sun Conference Championship Tournament, beginning on Thursday, May 6. The Bobcats take on fifth-seeded Warner University from the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
