#10 STU MAGICAL RUN ENDS IN NAIA QUARTERFINALS

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (May 6, 2021) - Tenth-seed St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Soccer (14-6) has been eliminated from the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship, following a 2-1 loss to second-seed Oklahoma Wesleyan University (20-2-1) in the quarterfinals.

Game Notes

  • The quarterfinal match-up had similarities with the first round, starting as a defensive struggle for the first half.
  • Both the Bobcats and the Eagles attempted only three shots on net in the opening 45-minutes.
  • Koutsopodiotis attempted the first shot on goal, but it was saved by the OKWU keeper.
  • Acerbi recorded two saves within the first 27-minutes of play, preserving a scoreless game.
  • Oklahoma Wesleyan found the back of the net for the first time in the 64th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 71st minute.
  • Arzeno recorded a goal, putting the score at 2-1, following an assist from Domber in the 82nd minute.
  • In the final minute of the game, Arzeno attempted one last opportunity to tie the game and force overtime but missed high, as the Bobcat season ended with a 2-1 defeat.

St. Thomas finished one of the most successful runs in program history in the 2020-21 season. The Bobcats tied the program record for wins (14), and won its third Sun Conference Tournament Championship in five seasons. By advancing to the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals, the Bobcats have now set a new best postseason finish.
