Box Score MESA, ARIZONA (January 31, 2024) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Baseball team defeated #19 Benedictine Mesa in an upset victory. Bobcat starting pitcher Juan Polo was stellar today, not allowing a hit until the bottom of the fifth. Polo had seven strikeouts, and gave up 3 hits.
 
 
3^rd Inning

• With Lucas Lopez and Rey Hernandez on the bases, Kendry Noriega broke the deadlock with a single which scored both baserunners. Bobcats 2-0

 
4^th Inning

• After a Luis Rodriguez walk and an Alan Caretta single, they found themselves on first and third.
• With a double steal the RedHawk catcher would throw it to second, allowing Rodriguez to come across the plate. Bobcats 3-0

 
5^th Inning

• Lucas Lopez started the inning off getting hit by a pitch, and Matt Granato walked.
• After an error both would get to the plate to extend the STU lead. Bobcats 5-0
• The RedHawks scored two, making it Bobcats 5-2.

 
7^th Inning

• Lucas Lopez got on with a leadoff walk.
• Matt Granato drilled a double to left center, scoring Lopez. Bobcats 6-2
• With the bases juiced, Robin Fernandez was hit by a pitch which brought Granato in to add a run. Bobcats 7-2

 
8^th Inning

• After Christopher Estrada drew a walk, Matt Granato stepped in the box and hit another double to score him. Bobcats 8-2

 
9^th Inning

• The RedHawks added one more run to make it 8-3, but the Bobcats secured the victory.
