Women’s Track and Field Heads to Program’s First Conference Indoor Championship

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 15, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Track and Field team will head to the Sun Conference stage beginning Friday, February 16th. After a successful inaugural indoor season, the Bobcats will be sending 20 participants from the Women's team. 

The Bobcats will be participating in 12 track events, including three relays. The events will take place over a two-day span, beginning Friday and concluding on Saturday, February 17th. The Women's team will also participate in four field events, two throws events and two jump events. LaKeisha Manning will be participating in the Women's Long Jump and Triple Jump while the Bobcats will have six competitors in Shot Put and four in Weight Throw. The Bobcats will also have four participants in the Women's Pentathalon. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

  • Wislande Pierre-Louis was honored as Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Superfly Athletics Preseason Classic. Pierre-Louis placed first in the Women's 400m with a time of 1:02.69 and fourth in the Women's 600m with a time of 1:45.39. 

  • Khila Darrisaw also recorded a first-place finish at the Superfly Classic in the Women's 200m. Darrisaw crossed the finish line with a time of 25.76. 

  • LaKeisha Manning had a successful outing at the Superfly Classic, participating in three events, and finishing in the top five in all three. Manning placed third in the Women's 60m Hurdles, second in the Women's Triple Jump, and Fifth in the Women's High Jump. 

  • Yamina Numan has been a competitor to watch all season, earning herself a Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Week honor early in the season. Numan was also the first female Bobcat to qualify for Nationals after her performance at the South Florida Youth Showcase where she ran the 60m and finished with a time of 7.71.
