Lakeland, Fla. – Highlighted by three Quarterfinal runs, the St. Thomas Men's and Women's Tennis teams competed in the annual ITA NAIA Florida Regional Championships this past weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN'S SINGLES): 

• Starting play with a 6-3, 6-0 upset over seventh-seeded Francina Puig Llompart, Anita Chornei added a 6-0, 6-1 win against Isabella Forcella to advance to the Quarterfinals where she fell 6-2, 6-0 to second-seeded Destinee Martins.
• Lauren Seemann won a pair of matches via a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Anna Schmidt and 6-3, 6-1 win over Elizabeth Pince before falling 6-0, 6-0 to third-seeded Cato Tangkau.
• Caterina Antonini fell 6-0, 6-1 to first-seeded Violet Apisah.
• Vivien Faludi won her opening set against Vanessa Simeone 7-6 before her opponent won back-to-back 6-3 games.
• Jenesie Burgos fell 6-2, 6-1 against Alessia Ciampi.
• Sofia Nardone fell 6-4, 6-2 to Irene Lopez Suero.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN'S SINGLES): 

• Giacomo Nava won his opener round matchup against Lukas Kopitzki 6-3, 6-3 before falling 6-0, 6-1 to eventual Champion Shaheed Alam.
• Jan Gewaltig advanced to the round of 32 behind a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Deniz Zeki before falling to fourth-seeded Diego Menedez Vina 6-3, 6-2.
• Valerio Calisti outlasted Diogo Pessoa 6-1, 6-3 before dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Valerio Calisti.
• Leon Emich prevailed in a three-set battle against Luigi Stefanucci 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 before falling 6-2, 6-2 to sixth-seeded Yassir Kilani.
• Manuel Steindl fell in his opener-round matchup against Arthur Fernandez 6-1, 7-6.
• Fabrizio Moreno dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Nolan Smith in the Round of 64.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN'S DOUBLES): 

• Faludi and Seemen used an 8-2 triumph over Camila Matos and Riley Cook to advance to the quarterfinals where they fell 8-2 to the fourth-ranked pairing of Carlotta Nonnis Marzano and Alessia Ciampi.
• Burgos and Fullerton blanked Ava Goto and Lauren Ulrich 8-0 before falling to second-seeded Eloise de Mooji and Vanja Vidanovic 8-6.
• Chornei and Antonini won their opening-round match 8-5 before falling in the second round to top-ranked Destinee Martins and Violet Apisah 8-2.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN'S DOUBLES): 

• Nava and Calisti prevailed in their opening round matchup against Leonardo Marin and Caspar Grylls 8-4 before falling 8-1 to Mark Tryakshin and Diego Fernandez.
• Gewaltig and Moreno advanced to the second round behind an 8-6 victory over Mital and Rodriguez before dropping an 8-1 decision to Simone Boscatto and Felipe Rivandeneira.
• Emich and Steindl fell 8-4 in the opening round to Carson O'Hara and Henri Wieber
