MIAMI GARDENS, FLA (FEBRUARY 5, 2026) - Freshman Mariano Alberto Hasenhkopf etched his name into the St. Thomas record books with a historic victory on February 5, defeating Yan Kodjoed of Barry University, the #1 ranked player in NCAA Division II men's tennis.
The match took place at Barry University as part of a challenging road contest that ended in a 1–6 team loss for St. Thomas. Despite the overall result, Hasenhkopf's win stood out as a defining moment for the program. It marked the first time in program history that a St. Thomas men's tennis player has defeated the nation's top-ranked Division II opponent.

His composure and competitiveness against an opponent of Kodjoed's caliber reflect both his individual ability and the continued growth of the St. Thomas tennis program.
This milestone victory represents more than a single match result. It highlights St. Thomas men's tennis improving every year and continuing to raise its standard at the national level. With a freshman leading the lineup at the top spot, the future of the program continues to trend upward.Â
Men's tennis will be back in action on Wednesday, February 11 as they travel to West Palm Beach to face Palm Beach Atlantic University, at 10AM.Â
