Miami Gardens, Fla. – Midway through their inaugural competition season, the St. Thomas University Bowling Team had a strong Fall Semester. Traveling to Atlanta, Ga. and Pensacola, Fla. for five tournaments against some of the top collegiate programs in the country this fall, the Bobcats have had four top-10 showings.

"I am very proud of these men and women who are representing STU at the highest level in very competitive tournaments," Director of Bowling Team Operations John Michalenko said. "This young team is on the cusp of making noise in the collegiate bowling world. Our head-to-head competition wins include Florida State, Alabama, Thomas More and LSU. I am optimistic that the team will place and start winning tournaments before the season is over."

The Bobcats have been led this fall by freshman two-handed righty Lucas Gonzalez, who made his collegiate debut with a 265 game at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Bee Bash #1. Gonzalez is no stranger to South Florida, ending his high school career as the Broward County High School Bowler of the Year. Fellow freshman Christopher Romano drew attention at the Spring Hill Classic Tournament in Pensacola when he placed 28th.

2026 opens with two tournaments in Tallahassee, Fla. before the Bobcats travel to Chicago for the prestigious Kegel/Hammer ISBPA tournament. The elite Tier 1 tournament features 70 collegiate programs.

Going hand-in-hand with the inaugural season, St. Thomas opened a state-of-the-art eight-lane bowling center on campus that the team uses for training with the most advanced technology in the bowling industry. The Bobcat Strikes Bowling Center will be open to the student body and community in 2026.

"None of this would have been possible with President Armstrong," Michalenko added. "We thank him for his support of STU athletics and his commitment to bringing championship level collegiate bowling to our campus."
