Series History
The Bobcats and Trojans have played six times, and they each have a 3-3 record against each other. These two teams played against each other in a four-game series last February in Miami Gardens, and Taylor won three of the four games. The Bobcats won their other games in 2022 and 2019, with the 2022 game going to the 11th inning.
Extra Innings Marathon
The Bobcats last game was an exciting one, lasting 15 innings and four and a half hours against Brewton-Parker. Freshman
Bryce Ware, in his second collegiate plate appearance, walked it off for the Bobcats on a bases loaded hit by pitch. That was the first run scored by either team since the 6th inning.
Adrian Quinonez and
Luis Rodriguez each threw three shutout innings in extra innings, combining for 15 strikeouts.
Toribio Wins Sun Conference Player of the Week
Edwin Toribio was back to his usual self last weekend against Brewton-Parker, as he became the first Bobcat to win a Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week in 2026. Toribio went 8-18 at the plate, with two home runs and ten RBI. On the season, Toribio leads the Bobcats in at-bats (40), home runs (3), and RBI (14).
Bobcats Leading the NAIA in Strikeouts
After 10 games this season, the Bobcats lead the entire NAIA strikeouts in strikeouts, with 117 K in 88 innings. Their 11.97 K/9 is 12th in the NAIA. The Bobcats' strikeouts have been led on the mound by
Diego Evans, who is tied for the most strikeouts in the NAIA with 28.
Juan Fernandez is also on the leaderboard, tied for fourth in the NAIA with 24 strikeouts.
Scouting Taylor
Taylor University, who is led by 22nd-year head coach Kyle Gould, traveled 1,050 from Upland, Indiana to Miami Gardens, Fla. The Trojans spend their first two weeks of the season in Arizona, going undefeated. Five of their six games were won by double-digits.
The Taylor pitching staff has been almost flawless heading into the weekend series. On the season, they have a 1.31 ERA, allowing just 23 hits and 15 walks in 48 innings. Their pitchers have struck out 63 batters. The Trojans are led by Brody Fine, who has not allowed a run in nine innings this season. Jake Boyer has been lights out for the Taylor bullpen, allowing just one hit and also not allowing a run in nine innings. Despite Taylor losing their ace Gabel Pentecost over the summer, who was drafted in the 6th round by the Houston Astros, they have not lost a beat.
Offensively, Taylor has been just as strong this season. The Trojans return Sam Gladd, a NAIA Preseason All-American, who has hit three home runs in six games. Other big names from last year that return to their offense include Brayden Manning, who has hit .448 with two home runs this year, and Luke Sutter, who is hitting .379 this year. As a team, Taylor is hitting .376 and slugging .615 over their first six games.
