Softball Heads To Klamath Falls For NAIA Opening Round

Miami Gardens, Fla. – For the third-straight season, the St. Thomas University Softball team has qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship. The Bobcats' journey to the World Series in Columbus, Ga., goes through the Klamath Falls, Bracket hosted by Oregon Tech from May 11-14, starting against Our Lady of the Lake on Monday, May 11 at 3:30 pm.

St. Thomas (31-20) enters the opening round after bowing out of the Sun Conference Tournament in a 7-4 setback against Warner University on Friday, May 1. The Bobcats are hitting .299 with a .448 slugging percentage off 84 doubles, 13 triples and 30 home runs while adding 238 RBI, 140 walks and 60 stolen bases. All-Sun Conference First Team honoree Christina Ortiz paces the offense behind a .372 batting average, using a team-best seven home runs and 12 doubles to boast 36 RBI, while sporting a 1.95 ERA over 107.2 innings in 39 appearances with eight wins and eight saves. All-Conference Second Team member Mya Achenbach hits a team-high five triples alongside a team-leading 14 stolen bases while First-Team All-Conference recipient Bailey LeGere draws 15 walks.

On the mound, the Bobcats sport a 2.88 ERA with 186 runs allowed, 134 earned, in 326 innings while striking out 213 batters. Melody Vizcaino holds a team-best 11 victories in the circles with 89 strikeouts while Johana Magaldi logs a team-high 115.2 innings of work.
