LAKE WALES, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats women's tennis team went on a road trip this past weekend and took home all three matches played. On Friday, the team traveled up to St. Petersburg to play Eckerd College where the Bobcats won by a score of 6-3. The Bobcats then took their success back on the road to take on two conference opponents on Saturday, in Warner University and Webber International University. Against Webber the girls dominated and won by a score of 7-0, from there the girls continued their domination by crushing Warner by a score of 5-0. These 3 wins were the first wins of the year for the Bobcats and improved their overall record to 3-6 and 2-3 in The Sun Conference. The Bobcats have now also qualified for The Sun Conference Tournament.
In the first match against Eckerd College, the Bobcats got off to a tough start dropping 2 out of the 3 doubles matches including a tough loss in a tiebreaker at second doubles. The girls turned around their fortunes in singles play coming out and winning 5 of the 6 singles matches, with the only loss being a default. All of the winning singles matches were won relatively comfortable, all winning in straight sets.
The women then traveled to take on Webber International University. This was the first time the Bobcats have beaten Webber in Coach Carrington's ten years at the school. Not only did the Bobcats win at Webber, but they crushed them, winning by a score of 7-0. The Bobcats only allowed 2 games total in doubles play, and 2 games total in singles play.
From the big conference win against Webber, then lady Bobcats then traveled to play another conference foe, Warner University. Warner did not have enough players to fill a full team, so they defaulted 3rd doubles and 6th singles right from the beginning. The Bobcats didn't need the extra help, as they came out and crushed Warner in singles and doubles. The Bobcats won 6-0, 6-0 at first and second singles and 8-2 at #1 doubles and 8-0 at second doubles.
The lady Bobcats played excellent over the road trip and picked up their first 3 wins of the year. They also won two in conference allowing them to qualify for The Sun Conference Tournament. The girls have been working hard and working on their games and it has shown up big.
