The St. Thomas Lady Bobcats split their double header today vs. Webber Int'l University. The Bobcats fell in the first game 7-6 in extra innings. Webber jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Bobcats tied the game at four with two home runs. Carissa Albizu was the first to go deep, followed by Jessica Vera's three run blast. The game stayed close the rest of the way and ended up in extra innings. The Warriors of Webber Int'l were able to push a run across in the top of the 8th via the Texas Tiebreaker rule. The Bobcats were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning, taking the loss in game one of the double header.
In between games, the Lady Bobcats honored their four senior girls for all they have done for the program. The four ladies are Tina Diaz (OF, UTL), Gina Guffanti (P, OF), Cindy Castrillon (C, OF), and Jessica Vera (C, OF). All four have been instrumental in growing the Bobcat softball program, and head coach Jeff Norman will definitely be sad to see them leave.
The Lady Bobcats took their senior day motivation out on the Warriors and brought home a victory in game two, 6-1. The Bobcats jumped out early to a 3-0 lead off an RBI single and 2 RBI triple from senior Jessica Vera. The Warriors scored a run trying to get back in the game, before Carissa Albizu dashed any hopes of that happening with her 3 run bomb in the 6th inning. The Bobcats retired the Warriors easily in the 7th to close out the win.
All four seniors contributed today for the Bobcats. Tina Diaz went a combined 0-5, but did score a run. Gina Guffanti went 0-6 on the day but also was able to score a run for the Bobcats. Cindy Castrillon went 3-8 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jessica Vera was the star of the seniors today, going 4-7 with a HR, triple, and 6 RBIs. The seniors and the rest of the Lady Bobcats will play their final home games of the season this Wednesday at 3 PM against Nova Southeastern University.
