Costa Mesa, Ca.—Game 1
Garcia and Emerson Propel Bobcats Past Lions
The Bobcats took advantage of poor pitching in the top of the first inning Thursday in game 1 of a doubleheader against Vanguard University of Southern California winning by a final of 3-0. Monica Garcia led the way for the Bobcats 2 singles and 2 R.B.I. for the Bobcats.
Carissa Albizu once again got things going for STU in the top of the 1st with a single through the left side of the infield. Mo King came up and completed her job in advancing Albizu to scoring position. After Danielle Borrelli drew the first of three walks in the inning Garcia was able to come through with a single up the middle, which scored Albizu and King. After two more walks to Jenny Sanchez and Denise Preito Borrelli scored.
That is all the support that Brenda Emerson needed as she cruised to a 3 hit complete game shut out. After being a little erratic in the bottom of the 1st, giving up a couple of walks and allowing a runner to reach third, Emerson settled down and didn't allow a runner past first base the rest of the game.
The STU Softball team improved to 4-7 on the season. Go Bobcats
Game 2
Tables Turned
STU was unable to use the momentum generated in game 1 and carry it over to game 2 as they fell to Vanguard by a final of 8-0. The Bobcats were able to muster up to 2 hits off Vanguard starter Katharine Jablonski as she pitched a complete game shut out.
The youngsters led the way for the Bobcats as two freshmen, centerfielder Sasha Horton and Designated Player Denise Preito accounted for the two hits in the ball game. Carissa Albizu was the only other base runner for STU as she reached base by virtue of a walk in the top of the 1st.
The Bobcats fall to 4-8 on the season and next take on Biola University Friday to continue their West Coast road trip.
