GULF SHORES, Ala. – (Box Score) Mobile (Ala.) (36-18) ended pool play with a 3-0 victory against St. Thomas (Fla.) Saturday at the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship. The 31st annual event is taking place at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Ally Scott drove in two of the three runs with a RBI-double in the second inning and another one in the fourth. She finished 2-for-3 on the day and gave plenty of run support for starting pitcher Kamaron Strickland.

Strickland, a sophomore from Enterprise, Ala., went 6.0 innings in the circle where she allowed five hits. She struck out one and walked one to improve to 15-10 on the season.

The third run for Mobile came in the two-run second inning. Milagros Lozada led off with a double down the right-field line. She scored on an Amanda Heyl wild pitch.

St. Thomas had its best scoring opportunity in the bottom of the sixth frame. After back-to-back singles to open the inning by Sasha Horton and Carissa Albizu, Strickland clamped down in the circle. After one out was made, Strickland induced a double-play ground ball to end the threat.

Albizu led the Bobcats with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.

Heyl took the loss going 4.0 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits.

STU ends its season with a 31-24 record after it went 0-3 in Pool H.
