MIAMI GARDENS, Fla – The 17
th ranked St. Thomas women's basketball team continued its fast start in conference play with a pair of road wins over Webber International and Warner. STU (14-4, 4-0) remained undefeated in The Sun Conference with all four wins coming on the road.
On Friday night, the Bobcats visited Webber International where they put away the Lady Warriors, 62-52 in a game in which senior
Nickerline Montina went over the 1,000 career scoring mark.
Maddie Cummings, who went over 1,000 career points one week ago herself, led all scorers with 20 points. Montina scored 19 points in a game that STU trailed at halftime 24-20 before outscoring WIU 42-28 in the second half.
The back-to-back weekend road trip continued with a Saturday afternoon tilt at Warner. St. Thomas shot an effective 50% from the floor, including 62% in the second half to fuel the win offensively. Individually vs. the Royals, STU was led
Dannisha Pierce's 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Montina added nine points, while
Gina Grimstead chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The conference schedule continues this with the Bobcats first home game in over a month vs. Ave Maria at the Fernandez Family Center. The winner of the St. Thomas-Ave Maria game likely will take sole possession of first place in the conference. After starting the New Year with four consecutive road games, seven of the next eight games are at home for the Bobcats with the only away game at backyard rival Florida Memorial.
