Women's Basketball Hosts Coastal Georgia In Opening Round Of Sun Conference Championship

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Postseason basketball returns to Miami Gardens on Tuesday, Feb. 24 when the St. Thomas University Women's Basketball Team welcomes the College of Coastal Georgia in the opening round of the Sun Conference Championship with tip-off set for 6:00 pm.

The Bobcats (17-10, 10-6 Sun Conference) returns to the friendly confines of the Fernandez Family Center as the fourth seed in the Sun Conference Tournament on the heels of back-to-back victories on the road to conclude the regular season, capped by a 69-36 win at the New College of Florida on Saturday, Feb. 21. STU averages 70.1 points on a .396 field goal percentage with 41.3 rebounds, 14.7 assists, 10.9 steals and 2.6 blocks.

Sarei McGill paces the offense behind 11.1 points on .401 shooting alongside 4.6 rebounds, second on the team behind Jaliyah Weekes who pulls down 4.8 boards a game. Morgan Taylor dishes out 2.5 assists while Samantha Vales adds 1.7 steals.

STU split the regular season home-and-home series with Coastal Georgia, winning at home 83-79 and falling in Brunswick 74-72.

Coastal Georgia (18-10, 8-8 Sun Conference) ventures to Miami Gardens after concluding the regular season with a 64-63 setback to Keiser on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Mariners average 81.6 points on a .364 field goal percentage with 36.4 rebounds, 14.2 assists, 15.1 steals and 1.8 blocks.

Abby Shepard leads a quartet of Mariners who average double-digit points with 12.4 while Taylor Blackshear fuels Coastal Georgia behind 11.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.3 assists.
The winner of the opening round matchup travels to top-seeded Southeastern for the Semifinals on Friday, Feb. 27
