MIAMI GARDENS Fla. – On a night honoring two of the most prolific scorers in school history, the St. Thomas women's basketball  team delivered with a 72-47 win over Florida Memorial avenging the team's lone defeat this season in Sun Conference competition.  The win came on Senior Night as seniors Nickerline Montina and Maddie Cummings were honored prior to their final regular season home game in Bobcat uniforms.

St. Thomas improved to 21-5 and 11-1 in the Sun Conference, while Florida Memorial dropped to 9-14 and 5-7 in the conference.  The two backyard rivals split the season with Florida Memorial winning the first meeting, 49-45, on Jan. 28.  The victory marked the fifth consecutive win for the Bobcats who have been perfect through the month of February.

The night though belonged to Montina and Cummings who were introduced pre-game with family members and honored for their careers at STU.  Montina went on to lead all scorers with 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting, her seventh game this season with 20 or more points.  Cummings scored 12 points with two three-pointers and five steals on the defensive end.

Junior forward Dannisha Pierce scored 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting and had five rebounds, four steals, two assists and a blocked shot.  Junior point guard Shanika Brooks had five points, six assists, and three steals.

With the exception of early deficits of 0-2 and 2-4, the Bobcats led the entire way opening up a lead of 21 points with two seconds left in the first half as Cummings had a steal and a fast break layup just before the buzzer.  STU coasted throughout the second half extending the lead to as many as 28 points several times.

The Bobcats return to action with a road game on Friday night at Southeastern before a clash at Ave Maria on Saturday in a game that could determine the conference title and top seeding in The Sun Conference tournament that begins next week at the Fernandez Center.
