CLERMONT, Fla. – A big game from
Sasha Horton led the STU softball team to a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory against Davenport University on Tuesday morning at Clermont, Fla. With the win, the Bobcats are now 6-0 in tournament competition at the National Training Center for the 2013 Spring Games.
Down 2-0 against Davenport,
Amanda Penton hit a bunt single and advanced to second on an error by the pitcher.
Christina Horton followed up with an RBI single that drove Penton home on a throwing error by the second baseman.
Sasha Horton's RBI single to right center scored both
Christina Horton and
Jessica Matias.
Sasha Horton would go 3-4 in the game, with three hits and two RBIs.
STU's offense would add on to its lead in the fifth with a leadoff single to right field and a stolen base by Matias, who scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
Brenda Emerson and
Cristina Sacramento combined for an impressive seven innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits.
Action continued on Tuesday for the Bobcats at the Spring Games. The women went 8-0 overall, including an exhibition game against junior college Mercyhurst University that will be exempt from the standings.
