MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. – St. Thomas women's tennis took on Palm Beach Atlantic this weekend as a part of the College Showcase for the Delray Beach Open. The Bobcats would fall to the Sailfish 6-3, with
Tetiana Kovalska and
Ashley Ahern coming away with victories.
In doubles action, the Bobcats top doubles team of Kovalska and
Gabriella Bongiovanni came away with a hard fought victory. The match went into sudden death with STU winning 8-9 (3-7). Unfortunately, Palm Beach Atlantic came away with victories on courts two and three, giving the Sailfish a 2-1 lead over the heading in to singles competition.
Seventh ranked Kovalska earned her second straight singles win with a big 6-1, 6-3 win on court one. Ahern continues to impress for the Bobcats as she also picked up her second straight win of the season. After dropping the first set 6-2, Ahern battled back to win the second set 7-5. She secured the win in the third and final set, after her opponent was forced to retire.
