MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - In the first Sun Conference match of the season, St. Thomas was dominant in an 8-1 win over Ave Maria Thursday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Courts. The Bobcats swept the singles competiion and won two of the three double matches en route to the win.
In number one singles,
Cassandra Lemieux won 6-2, 6-2, while
Victoria Slavina defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-1 in number two singles. Also winning in straight sets were
Ksenia Slavina (6-2, 6-1) in number four singles and
Naomi Maehama (6-0, 6-0) in number five singles.
Maria Dimitrova was stretched to a third set tiebreaker in number three singles, but came away victorious as well.
In number two doubles, the team of
Cynthia Diaz and Maehama won 8-3. The lone loss for the Bobcats came in number one doubles as the team of Lemieux and
Victoria Slavina lost to AMU's Marianna Vargas and Mary Kathryn Lee 8-5.
The Bobcat return to action on Monday at 2:30 p.m. with a home match vs. York University at the Bobcat Tennis Courts.
