3/24/2016 5:27:00 PM

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (12-14, 1-0 The Sun Conference) defeated Keiser (12-15, 0-1 TSC) 4-3 on a wild walk-off in the season-opening Sun Conference game for the two schools.

The second game of the doubleheader between the two teams was halted due a lightning delay in the fourth inning with Keiser leading 3-1.  The game will be rescheduled on a future date with the game resuming where it left off.

The Bobcats won the first game in dramatic walk-off fashion.  STU faced defeat, trailing 3-2 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.  Jessica Matias singled to right field to put the tying run on base.  With Amanda Penton batting, Matias ran on a hit-and-run as the ball was put into play.  Penton beat out the throw to first with a diving head-first slide.  With Matias heading to third, a run-down then commenced with Penton between first and second base.  An errant throw by the Seahawks went into the outfield as both Matias and Penton came around to score to win the game.

Jessica Castiglione (2-2) pitched a complete game to earn the win for STU.  Castiglione went seven complete innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out five and walking none.

Four Bobcats registered multi-hit games at the plate with Matias, Penton, Carson Catasus and Michelle Murch all recording two hits.
