STU HOSTS SUN CONFERENCE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP AT CRANDON PARK

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, The Sun Conference Tennis Championships will be played at The Tennis Center at Crandon Park, home of the Miami Open, considered by many to be the "fifth major" of professional tennis.  Student-athletes from The Sun Conference will play at the same facility that annually hosts stars such as Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the Miami Open.
 
St. Thomas University will serve as host for the event to be held Thursday, April 20 and Friday, April 21.  Four schools from both the men's and women's side qualified for the conference tournament with semifinals taking place on Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the men's and women's championship matches on Friday beginning at 10 a.m.  A total of 12 courts will be utilized at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park, including Stadium Court, home of the Miami Open Finals.
 
Keiser enters the men's tournament as the number one seed after going undefeated in conference play.  Tournament host St. Thomas (4-2) is the number two seed, while SCAD Savannah (4-2) is the number three seed.  Warner (3-3) is the fourth seed.   
 
On the women's side, SCAD-Savannah earned the number one seed with a 6-0 conference mark.  Keiser (5-1) is the second seed with host St. Thomas (4-2) as the third seed.  Southeastern (3-3) is seeded fourth.
 
Admission to the Sun Conference Tennis Championships on April 20-21 at The Tennis Center at Crandon Park is free for spectators.  Stay tuned to stubobcats.com and to thesunconference.com for updates throughout the tournament.
