Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The third seeded St. Thomas University Men's Tennis team dropped a hard fought semifinal match to no. 2 seed and event host Coastal Georgia on Thursday afternoon.
STU and CCG battled through both doubles and singles play with the Mariners ultimately coming out on top by the score of 5-2.
The nationally 19th ranked Mariners won the first two doubles matches 8-4 to go up 2-0. The 25th ranked Bobcats then battled back with a 8-5 doubles win by the no. 3 doubles team of
Dimitri Bird and
Fabrice Bissainthe.
St. Thomas evened the match at 2-2 after
Rasmus Lindstrom claimed a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles.
However, the Mariners claimed the next three singles contests in order to clinch the match.
St. Thomas returns home to South Florida with a no. 25 national ranking and a Sun Conference semifinal appearance and
Kevin Cubela was named First-Team All-Conference, while Lindstom was named Second-Team All-Conference and Bird Academic All-Conference.
Mauricio Fernandez won The Sun Conference Champions of Character award.
