Running Backs Shine as #22 Bobcats Beat Gyrenes in Exciting Sun Conference Matchup

AVE MARIA, Fla. (October 22, 2022)- The St. Thomas University (STU) traveled to Ave Maria and took care of business. Rontavious Farmer and Damian Heller both had over 100 yards rushing. In the beginning it was a close game, but the Bobcats were able to tame the Gyrenes winning 55 to 33.

The Bobcats opened the game on defense forcing an early three and out. The first possession for STU was nine plays and 79 yards for a touchdown. The drive started on the ground with Rontavious Farmer, then was finished by a Tyler Thomas pass to Khalitri Zow. The Gyrenes next possession would tie the game at 7.

With another three and out for the Bobcats, Ave Maria would drive down the field and would end in a field goal putting the Gyrenes up 10-7. The next drive for STU Ty'Quan Wiggins would be in charge of the offense. With a couple of great runs from the runningbacks Rontavious Farmer and Damian Heller, Ty'Quan Wiggins hit Khalitri Zow for his second touchdown of the game. The following drive for Ave would result in a touchdown and it looked like the Bobcats were in for a tough game. The Bobcats would ruin the Momentum for the Gyrenes with a Ty'quan Wiggins pass to C'quan Jnopierre where he would run up the sideline for a 42-yard touchdown.

Starting the second half with the ball in their hands the Bobcats would be forced to punt. Punter Braden Dick had other plans and would fake it and run up the sideline for the first down. With the momentum, STU drove down the field but would settle for an Alejandro Prado 31-yard field goal. The STU defense would force another punt giving the ball back to the offense. Tyler Thomas hit Aarmando McGhee who jumped over two defenders for a 29-yard grab, setting up an 18-yard Damian Heller rushing touchdown.

The STU defense was not allowing anything forcing another punt. The offense would have another long drive that would end in a 26-yard Alejandro Prado field goal. Ave Maria would have a drive of their own that would also lead to a field goal. The Gyrenes kickoff would be an onside kick in which they recovered. After a Khalil Bryan sack, Ave would be forced to punt again. Ty'Quan Wiggins was back on the field leading a drive where Wiggins would muscle his way in the end zone for the score.

Ave Maria's next drive would be cut short with a forced fumble by Michael Torrence which was recovered by Nicholas Engler. With great field position Rontavious farmer would rush for a 34-yard touchdown. Ave would score on their next possession on a deep shot. Getting the ball back, Damian Heller would get the majority of the carries which led to a Heller 3-yard touchdown. The Gyrenes were hanging around with another touchdown on their next drive.
The last drive for the Bobcats would end in victory formation, with a final score of 55 to 33.
