Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 21, 2023) - St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Tennis team (4-0) is off to a hot start taking down their first four opponents. Florida National University was added to the list Tuesday afternoon taking a 6-1 defeat. This is the best start in nearly 20 years for the 13th-ranked Bobcats.
Play was set up perfectly with a double point clinch after St. Thomas took courts two and one. The senior duo of Lia Peña and Annie Carrera started things off with a win at two taking it 6-4. The one pair, Isabella Cianaglini and Carme Ibáñez secured the point with another 6-4 victory.
Singles play was no different bringing the momentum from doubles. Ibáñez made quick work on court two taking every game to win it 6-0, 6-0. Peña followed suit on court one with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Carrera clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in court three.
Cianaglini took added another victory on court four 6-2, 6-1. Laureen Seeman picked up the win of the day in court six taking it in three sets coming back after a fall in set one 3-6.
St. Thomas will be tested again this weekend as they travel to Ohio to take on the Racer Classic. The Bobcats will take on three ranked opponents in a two day span before heading into conference play.
