Men's Track & Field Dominates at South Florida Youth Showcase

MIAMI, Fla. (January 20, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Track and Field competed in the South Florida Youth Showcase on Saturday at Tropical Park in Miami, Fla. The Bobcats had many key performers at the showcase that led to their success against other Sun Conference teams. 

In the Men's 60 Meter Dash, Bradley Bowlin sprinted down the track with lightning speed, crossing the finish line in 6.76 seconds, securing a commendable 2nd place, becoming a national qualifier in the event. Meanwhile, Zion Roberts and Jordan Smith gave their all, finishing in 5th and 7th place. Bowlin continued to shine at the meet, clocking in at 21.99 seconds and claiming the 3rd place in the Men's 200m Dash.  

The Men's 300m Dash witnessed Isaac Joseph dominating the race, finishing in an impressive 35.69 seconds and securing the coveted 1st place. Tristan Simmons also exhibited his speed, competing fiercely in the event, earning a 3rd place finish. Maxwell Mesais and Kayden Anderson showcased their prowess in the Men's 400m Dash, with Mesais clinching 2nd place in 50.95 seconds, while Anderson secured 7th place in 57.48 seconds. 

In the Men's 600m Run, Jamari Benjamin left an indelible mark, claiming 1st place with a remarkable time of 1:24.41. Julian Archie and Angus Almond also showcased their endurance in the event, Archie finishing in 4th and Almond finishing in 6th.  

The Men's 800 Meter Run Open featured Roger Reyes, who secured 2nd place with a time of 1:58.65. Jabes Jimenez and Raynaldo Narcisse also demonstrated their stamina, claiming 4th and 5th places, respectively. David Perez, Matthew Seibel, Connor Glass, Alain Bermudez, and Osvaldo Cruz battled it out in the Men's 1 Mile Run Open. Perez led the pack, finishing in 2nd place with a time of 4:36.75.  

The Men's 60m Hurdles showcased Simmons once again, claiming 1st place with a swift time of 8.40 seconds. The Men's Long Jump Open witnessed Mike Sanabria's incredible leap of 5.76m, earning him 1st place. 

The field events continued with the Men's Shot Put, where Kejar Stanfield displayed his strength with a throw of 12.64m, securing 1st place. David Kellier and Charles Chapman also showcased their skills in the competition. Stanfield continued to dominate in Throws in the Men's Weight Throw. With a throw of 10.34m, Stanfield earn 1st place in the event. Stanfield's performance earned him the honor of Sun Conference Athlete of the Week. 

Up next, the Bobcats will head to Gainesville, Fla. For the Florida Collegiate Invitational on Friday, January 26th.
