Bobcats Defeat (RV) Southeastern after Falling to Lions in Double-Header

COOPER CITY, Fla. (February 23, 2024) - St. Thomas University (STU) Beach Volleyball kicked off the 2024 season with a tri-match against Sun Conference opponents, (RV) Southeastern University and Florida Memorial University from the Suellen H Fardelmann Cooper City Sports Complex on Friday. The Bobcats split the tri-match, defeating the Fire in the afternoon after falling to the Lions in the morning. 

St. Thomas vs. Florida Memorial (3-2 FMU) 

Alex MacAskill and Mia Thomas lost the first match of the "Battle of Miami Gardens" in two sets (21-15, 21-15). Raynn Daniels and Gianni Ramirez were also defeated in two sets (21-17, 21-14). The Mya Thomas and Alexandra Bruno connection earned a redemption win in two sets (24-26, 21-15). Alexa Moore and Serena Ramirez picked up their first win of the day, defeating the Lions in two straight sets (14-21, 17-21) and Maria Lugo and Margaret Sierra ended the match with a (18-21, 17-21) loss. 

St. Thomas vs. (RV) Southeastern (3-2 STU) 

The Bobcats defeated the (RV) Fire on Friday afternoon. Ramirez and Daniels fell in the first match against the Fire in two sets (21-8, 21-4). The Fire swept the Bobcats in match two, where Mia Thomas and Alex MacAskill fought hard, but fell in two sets (21-11, 21-11). Alexandra Bruno and Mya Thomas earned the first Bobcat win against the Fire by defeating Kennedy Jones and Ally Postlethwaite in three sets (21-18, 17-21, 13-15). Moore and Ramirez also picked up a win against the fire in three close sets (21-19, 10-21, 10-15).  The duo of Lugo and Sierra was victorious, winning in three sets (21-15, 12-21, 13-15). Maya Salazar and Camryn Heyes lost the final match in three tough sets (21-9, 14-21, 15-8). 

Up next, the Bobcats will travel to Ave Maria, Fla. on Friday and Saturday, March 1st and 2nd to face off against #10 Mobile, William Carey, and (RV) Loyola.
