Box Score 2 MELBOURNE, Fla. (February 27, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team competed in a double-header on Tuesday afternoon for day one of the Space Coast games. The Bobcats defeated both Oakland City and Michigan-Dearborn, keeping their undefeated streak alive with ten straight wins, making their record 10-0.
Game #1: Oakland City University
The Bobcats first participated in a match up against Oakland City University. Spearheaded by Anna Toon's masterful pitching, the team stifled Oakland City's attempts to gain momentum, consistently shutting down their scoring opportunities. Toon's precision on the mound kept Oakland City batters at bay throughout the match, recording an impressive six strikeouts and allowing only three hits over four innings. Offensively, St. Thomas wasted no time in making their mark on the scoreboard. In a decisive second inning, the team rallied together to drive in four runs, laying the foundation for their eventual victory. Mya Achenbach had a standout performance with her pivotal triple, which propelled St. Thomas into an early lead. Toon's powerful double in the fourth inning further solidified St. Thomas' hold on the game, adding to the team's commanding lead.
Despite Oakland City's efforts to mount a comeback, St. Thomas remained steadfast in their resolve, ultimately securing the win with a shutout performance. The final score was 4-0, bringing the Bobcats' record to 9-0.
Game #2: Michigan-Dearborn
The St. Thomas Softball team moved onto their second match of the day against Michigan-Dearborn, securing a commanding 9-2 victory. Michigan-Dearborn jumped to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. However, St. Thomas quickly rallied, responding with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to level the score.
As the game progressed, St. Thomas seized control, unleashing a relentless offensive onslaught that left Michigan-Dearborn struggling to keep pace. The third inning proved to be decisive as St. Thomas exploded for an impressive five runs, fueled by a series of powerful hits and strategic baserunning. Bianca Palacios delivered a standout performance, notching two RBIs with a double in the third inning. Kylie Casanova and Allison Morales also made significant contributions, each driving in a run to extend St. Thomas' lead. Another notable was a triple by Anna Toon, who finished the game with three hits and an RBI to her name. Toon delivered a stellar performance on the mound, holding Michigan-Dearborn to just two hits over five innings while striking out four batters. The Bobcats maintained their lead, finishing the game with a score of 9-2, bringing their record to 10-0.
