Bobcats Go 1-1 at Space Coast Games Day 3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 5, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team traveled to Melbourne, Fla. for day three of their competition in the Space Coast Games. The Bobcats defeated Roosevelt University in their early contest, but fell to Cornerstone University in a close game under the lights.

In Game one, the Bobcats faced Roosevelt University at 4:45 pm. The Bobcats defeated Roosevelt University in a shut out win, 4-0. This game marked 13-straight wins for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats faced Cornerstone University at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening for their second match up of the day. From the outset, it was evident that neither team was willing to concede an inch. St. Thomas made their mark in the opening inning, with Anna Toon's double to center field driving in Natalie Kopicova, setting the tone for a closely contested affair. St. Thomas extended their lead in the second inning when Jade Fayad's sacrifice fly brought home Samantha Suarez. However, Cornerstone refused to let the game slip away. In the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles capitalized on an error to put them on the scoreboard, igniting their comeback. The eighth inning proved to be decisive, as St. Thomas looked to solidify their lead. Gabrirella Gilbert's single to left field, followed by clutch plays from Bianca Palacios and Fayad, seemed to put St. Thomas in the driver's seat. However, the Golden Eagles had other plans.

In a dramatic turn of events, Cornerstone rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning, capitalizing on opportunities to stage a comeback. A series of walks and hits allowed the Golden Eagles to claw their way back into contention, culminating in a game-winning double that secured their victory. Despite a valiant effort from St. Thomas, it was Cornerstone that took home the extra inning victory, with a final score of 7-6.
