Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (May 14, 2024) - The (RV) St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team faced off against
Florida National University on Tuesday afternoon for their second game of the 2024 NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The Bobcats defeated the Conquistadors in the match up, 6-5, and will advance to day three of the round.
The Bobcats took the lead first in the bottom of the first inning.
Natalie Kopicova was the first baserunner of the game with a triple to left center, setting the Bobcats up to score.
Bianca Palacios singled to right center, bringing Kopicova home to put St. Thomas on the board. Palacios made her way home when
Gabriella Gilbert reached first on a fielder's choice, putting the Bobcats up 2-0 to close out the first inning.
Gilbert kept the heat in the bottom of the third, doubling to left center which brought home Kopicova and advanced
Anna Toon.
Destiny Falquez followed suit with a single, bringing home Toon to extend the Bobcats' lead to 4-0. St. Thomas continued their momentum in the fourth inning with a double from Toon, bringing in
Mya Achenbach for run number five for the Bobcats. Gilbert earned her third RBI of the game when Palacios ran home to put the Bobcats up 6-0.
The Conquistadors attempted to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning, scoring five runs, including a three-run home run in the half inning. But their attempts were not enough, and the Bobcats emerged victorious with a final score of 6-5. This game marks the Bobcats' 50th match up of the season, bringing their overall record to 39-11. St. Thomas will return to the field on Wednesday, May 15th at 3:30 p.m. Pacific. They will face off against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
