Women's Basketball Heads to Webber Before Hosting Coastal Georgia

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 29, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team hits the road today to face off against Webber International University for the second time this season. After traveling to Babson Park, Fla. the Bobcats will return home to host College of Coastal Georgia for their second meeting. 

The Bobcats enter the match up against the Warriors with a record of 13-6 and a conference record of 7-2. St. Thomas is currently tied with Southeastern University for second in the Sun Conference, both teams trailing Florida Memorial at 8-1. The Bobcats will face off against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29th in Babson Park, Fla. The Warriors will enter the match up with an overall record of 4-13, falling to Ave Maria University and Warner University, 70-71 in last week's conference match up. Earlier this season, St. Thomas defeated Webber 80-49 at home. Four Bobcats scored in the double figures with Sarei McGill leading the charge at 15 points and 15 rebounds. The Bobcats currently lead in series history with an overall record of 31-8 and they are currently 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

Up next, the STU Women's Basketball team will return home and host College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday, February 1st at 2:00 p.m. The Mariners are currently sitting at fifth in Sun Conference rankings, with an overall record of 10-6 and conference record of 3-5. The Bobcats defeated the Mariners earlier in the season 54-47. St. Thomas leads the series with an overall record of 14-4 and they are 8-2 in the last 10 match ups. Jasmine Worthy picked up a double-double performance in the Bobcats last meeting with the Mariners with 17 points and 10 rebounds. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • Madison Lippy had a great game against Keiser University, notching 22 points against the Seahawks. 
  • Sophie Vandyke had a near double-double against New College of Florida, picking up 22 points and nine rebounds. Vandyke also picked up three blocks against the Seahawks, keeping her in the lead for the Bobcats with 42 blocks this season.
  • Maddie Scharrenberg has taken the lead for the Bobcats in points scored this season, entering this week with 177. Scharrenberg picked up 27 points last week, 18 against the Mighty Banyans and nine against the Seahawks.
