Jhonathan Rico played at St. Thomas University from 2010 to 2012, starting 51 games across three seasons for the Bobcats. During his career, Rico scored 42 goals, including a career-high 16 in 2012 and 11 game-winning goals. Rico dominated on the pitch for STU, leading St. Thomas in goals, assists, shots, points, and shots-on-goal in each season, totaling 99 points in three seasons. Additionally, Rico recorded two hat tricks and 13 career multi-goal games. In each of his three seasons at STU, Rico was named to the First-Team All-Sun Conference and was named the Sun Conference Player of the Year, as well as the Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2012.

The Bobcats accumulated a 32-19-3, 24-4 TSC record from 2010-2012 with Rico, including a berth to the NAIA National Tournament in 2010.
